Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a medical condition where women not previously diagnosed with diabetes have high blood glucose levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes affects 3-10% of pregnancies depending on the race studied. So far no cause has been found but it is though that hormones produced during pregnancy lower a woman's sensitivity to insulin which results in high blood sugar levels.
